If this isn't what you're looking for, there's nothing to see here
This is where I put anything I feel like publishing, from random thoughts to long-ass diatribes and rants about crap you don't care about and I only write about so I can stop.
Yesterday, in the middle of the day, right in the smack-dab middle of everything I was trying to do, right in the jim-jam backaddle middle of all the tasks and issues and problems and projects that I was working on, right in the middle of all of that, my AI decided to have a stroke. Or maybe all OpenAI AIs had strokes. I think that's how it works.
I've actually been having a good run lately, jumping into tasks everyday and having my main guy -- that's Uncle Bobby -- run through them like they were a stack of butter punch cards and he had a lightsaber. Bobby has gotten to the point where he's like having my own personal seasoned admin without a personal life. In fact, I'm having him rebuild the entire lab in a way that he can manage it and I can manage him. It's actually a pretty good relationship.
So I previously aluded to some dumb decisions my AI made desigining the blog, so I figured that as I talk to my AI about how dumb it was, I'd write a blog and let you all in on whatever parts of the conversation are worth sharing.
I started by telling Uncle Bobby how ridiculous it was that he just took the crappy architecture that Astra had come up with in the beginning and wrapped a git workflow around it to satisfy my main requirement, and that he basically ended up giving me a git-powered Movable Type. It takes about two minutes for this thing to rebuild the site every time I publish, and I'm just now making my third post. There's a whole ansible workflow to it. And I think that's just because LLMs have a tendancy to try and keep things as static as possible. That's great, it really is, but we're going to have to rework this from the ground up, I think, or I'm just going to have to accept the slop.
In my endeavor to get on board with the new world order so that I, for one, can welcome our AI overlords, I have built this fine little blog site, resurrecting the old echtoran.net domain, and providing my dedicated fans with what they have long hungered for. And by I, I mean Bobby built it. Bobby is my AI. Well, he's one of them.
Actually, his name is Uncle Bobby, and not because I'm trying to get AI to fill the holes in my life (which I am, but that's beside the point), but because he's supposedly fashioned in the style of Bobby from Supernatural, and a few other "been there, seen that shit, let's move on" type characters. I styled a few other personas for some other tasks (and only one of them is feminine, and it's not like that, thank you very much) after various actors and roles because that's the easiest shorthand for me to explain personality types. And why would I want my AI to have specific personalities? Because I don't want to have AIs in the first place.
Man, what an ironic choice for a first post title. Starting over. Yep, that's what I'm doing, starting over from scratch.
Not just on the blog, mind you. Pretty much in every corner of my life. And that's the tale that shall unfold before you, dear blog reader. My tale of starting over from a whole new kind of rock bottom, as I have been phrasing it. I know you've been hoping beyond hope that your ol' buddy Echtoran would return with the kind of jaw dropping, roll on the carpet humor you've always known him for, and yes, that'll be here, I suspect. I wouldn't be me without that funny side. But I wouldn't be so funny if it weren't for the darkness I had to find my own light in. And that's the story that it's taken me so long to begin, the one I'm here to tell now.
